About the project
Three interactive installations for the Moscow Government stand at Russian Energy Week 2023: an urban services card index, the “How the city has changed” touch table and the “Energy exchange with the city” map.
On 11–13 October 2023 the Manege Central Exhibition Hall hosted the 6th Russian Energy Week International Forum. It was organised by the Roscongress Foundation and the Ministry of Energy of Russia with the support of the Moscow Government. The Moscow Government stand presented the city’s Urban Services Complex: power, gas, water and heat supply, utility tunnels and digital city management.
We made three interactive installations for the stand: a card index where a visitor chooses an industry with an acrylic card and browses the materials with a rotary knob; a touch table with the question “What matters for happiness in a city?” and a “How the city has changed” section that shows familiar Moscow places in different years on a large LED screen; and “Energy exchange with the city”, where a visitor places a palm on a panel and the map of Moscow on the LED wall lights up.
This is our second project for the Moscow Government stand at Russian Energy Week: a year earlier, at Russian Energy Week 2022, we produced its content and two interactive installations.

The task
The stand had to show forum guests how Moscow’s urban services work: which industries they cover, which companies stand behind them and how the city has changed over the decades. Visitors were to choose for themselves what to look at, and the screens were not to stand idle when no one was around. All of it by the forum opening on 11 October.
What we did
For each installation we drew up a map of its sections or switching logic, built and tested the software and kept it running during the forum.
Urban services card index
A large curved screen with a stand in front of it. The screen shows seven sections: “Power supply”, “Gas supply”, “Water supply and sewerage”, “Heat supply”, “Digital management”, “Utility tunnels” and “Comfortable city”. A visitor places an acrylic card with the name of an industry into the illuminated slot, and its section opens: text, key figures and the “Choose a topic” and “Choose a company” menus. A rotary knob switches between subsections. “Power supply”, for example, has five topics — from building power grids to architectural and artistic lighting — and five companies: Rosseti Moscow Region, United Energy Company, Mosenergosbyt, Mossvet and Mosgorsvet. “Heat supply” includes a subsection on hydraulic testing and diagnostics of MOEK heating networks. After 60 seconds without a visitor the card index returns to standby mode.
Touch table and LED screen
The table has two sections. In “What matters for happiness in a city?” a visitor chooses from options including safe gas supply, clean water, warm homes, good public utilities, a healthy environment and responsive city management. “How the city has changed” is a carousel of places: Luzhniki, GUM, the Main Building of Moscow State University, the Zoo, the Metropol and others. A visitor slides a finger along the timeline, and on the LED screen in front of the table an old photo of the place blends into a new one — for example, “Metropol, 2023”.
“Energy exchange with the city”
An LED wall with a map of Moscow drawn in glowing lines and the prompt “Put your hand on the mark and charge up with the city’s energy”. A visitor places a palm on the panel by the wall, the networks on the map flare up, and the city “replies” with a message: “Hi, this is Moscow! As I make the city comfortable, I try to save resources. Street lighting increasingly uses LED lamps: they last longer and save up to 30% of electricity”.
How it is built
Card index — a curved LED screen with a stand in front of it carrying a reader slot for the acrylic industry cards and a rotary knob. Two levels: a section and its subsections with videos.
Table — a horizontal touch screen: choosing a year on the table controls the image on the LED screen in front of it.
“Energy exchange” — an LED wall with a map and a stand with a hand-shaped panel.
Shared screen style — a dark blue background, neon lines, the coat of arms and the caption “Moscow Urban Services Complex”.
Result
The installations ran on the stand throughout the forum, 11–13 October 2023. Videos and photos from the stand show them at work, including shots of the official tour.
