About the project

Software for three interactives on the Moscow Government stand at Russian Energy Week 2024: a city model with illuminated buildings, the “Lift into energy” and a quiz.

On 26–28 September 2024 Moscow hosted the 7th Russian Energy Week International Forum. For the first time it was held at two venues: the business programme at the Manege Central Exhibition Hall and an exhibition of equipment and technology at Gostiny Dvor. The organiser was the Roscongress Foundation, with the support of the Russian Government, the Ministry of Energy of Russia and the Moscow Government; there were more than 5300 participants from 81 countries.

At the Manege, the Moscow Government presented a stand of the Moscow Urban Economy Complex devoted to the capital’s fuel and energy sector. We worked on it as a subcontractor and wrote the software for three interactives: a city model where buildings light up and videos start, the “Lift into energy” and a quiz on a touch kiosk. For the exhibition at Gostiny Dvor we also made an animated diagram of how a combined heat and power plant works.

This is the third Moscow Government stand at Russian Energy Week for which we have made interactives: before it came Russian Energy Week 2022 and 2023.

The task

The general contractor needed software for three interactives on the stand. Each has an standby mode and a scenario in which the guest starts the content themselves: with a spinner at the model, with buttons in the lift, with a touch of the screen in the quiz. The deadline was 26 September 2024, the forum’s opening day; the brief was signed on 26 August.

What we did

Interactive model

White buildings on a table, each representing a branch of the energy or utilities sector; behind the model is a corner screen. While no guest is there, a splash screen runs — in one of the photos it is the Moscow coat of arms. A guest turns a spinner — buildings on the model light up and a hint appears on the screen. Pressing the spinner starts a video, pressing it again returns the model to standby mode. Each screen has its own spinner and its own video. The screen shows the sections “Gas supply”, “Power generation”, “Electricity supply”, “Water supply”, “Wastewater”, “Heat supply”, “Utility tunnels”, “Digital management”, “Comfortable city” and a map of Moscow with network lines.

“Lift into energy”

An installation in the form of a lift car: a button panel at the entrance, a screen inside. A guest presses a button and a video about a facility plays; pressing again stops it, and another button starts a new one. The videos are about energy and utility facilities: modernised combined heat and power plants, electrical substations, gas equipment manufacturing, wastewater treatment plants, control centres and utility tunnels.

“Your Moscow” quiz

A touch kiosk in front of a large LED wall. Standby mode, a menu, a test of up to ten multiple-choice questions, a result window and a company catalogue: a guest picks a name and opens information about the company. One of the questions is “Which energy resource technologies should be introduced in Moscow?”. The LED wall behind the kiosk shows images of the Moscow of the future.

Combined heat and power plant diagram

An animated diagram for the exhibition at Gostiny Dvor: water and steam move through the pipes and liquid heats up in the boilers. The diagram has 15 points — from the chimney and the steam boiler to the cooling tower, the power line and consumers; tapping a point opens the label of that unit. The legend covers cold and hot water, steam, gas, air, flue gases and electricity. The diagram was made from a ready design in five days, 22–26 September.

How it is built

Model: three-dimensional illuminated buildings on a table, spinners — one for each screen, a corner screen behind the model.

Lift: a car with a screen and a button panel; each button has its own video.

Quiz: a touch kiosk with an LED wall behind it.

All the software was delivered as ready-to-run applications with supporting files.

Result

In the photos of the stand that mos.ru published on the forum’s opening day, 26 September 2024, all three interactives are in operation. The work on both orders — the three interactives and the combined heat and power plant diagram — was accepted under certificates dated 26 September 2024.
