“North Caspian” interactive model for the LUKOIL stand at Offshore Marintec Russia 2016

Exhibitions / “North Caspian” interactive model for the LUKOIL stand at Offshore Marintec Russia 2016

About the project

Software for an interactive table with models of offshore platforms and for the screen above it: the guest turns a controller and learns about LUKOIL’s fields in the North Caspian.

On 4–7 October 2016 the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Centre in St Petersburg hosted Offshore Marintec Russia, an international exhibition and conference on shipbuilding and the development of the Arctic and the continental shelf. LUKOIL presented its offshore projects in the North Caspian there.

For the company’s stand we made the software for an interactive model: a 3D scene, animation and an interface for the table with the platform models and for the large screen above it.

What we did

The model table

Under the glass of the table is a screen with a map of the North Caspian, on which translucent platform models stand. Lighting and animation beneath the models show the fields — V. Filanovsky and Rakushechnoye — and lines to the shore labelled with distances.

Controller and screen

Selections are made with a metal puck controller: the guest places it on the table and turns it, and a menu opens around it. The large screen above the table shows related content — camera fly-throughs between the platforms, and information on the fields, oil traffic and platforms. For Rakushechnoye, for example, it shows the reserves: 38 million tonnes of oil, 40 billion m³ of gas and 0.94 million tonnes of hydrocarbon condensate.

How it is built

The table and the screen work together: whatever is selected on the table appears on the screen. The platforms, vessels and sea are in a 3D scene, and the camera flies between objects.

Result

The model was in operation on the LUKOIL stand at Offshore Marintec Russia 2016 — as our video from the exhibition shows.
