About the project

The “Information portal” and the “Russian Spring” installation for the new exhibition “Russia. 21st century” at the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, opened on 8 November 2024.

On 8 November 2024 a new permanent exhibition, “Russia. 21st century: challenges of the time and development priorities”, opened at the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia on Tverskaya Street — about events in the country over the last quarter of a century. It has five halls, more than 500 original objects and 31 multimedia exhibits. The exhibition was designed by another company.

We made two installations for the exhibition: the “Information portal” in the hall “Russia — for a just multipolar world!” and “Russian Spring”.

The task

The hall “Russia — for a just multipolar world!” covers the country’s foreign policy in the 21st century: the 2007 Munich speech, NATO’s eastward expansion, the reunification with Russia of Crimea and Sevastopol, the DPR, the LPR and the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, and the special military operation. Two installations had to be made — the “Information portal” for this hall and “Russian Spring” — within a week, in time for the opening on 8 November.

What we did

“Information portal”

A screen on the dark wall of the hall, with a control handle with an illuminated ring beside it. The main screen has four sections matching the themes of the hall: “National security”, “Foreign policy”, “Russian Spring. Donbas against Nazism” and “The special military operation”.

“Russian Spring”

The second installation we made for the exhibition.

How it is built

The portal is controlled not by touching the screen but with a separate illuminated handle on a flexible metal hose next to the screen.

The background of the portal’s interface is white three-dimensional blocks, like those on the walls of the hall itself.

Result

A long hall with walls of white three-dimensional blocks and lit display cases; in the centre, a dark cube with screens and photographs; round screens on either side; on the right, the “Special military operation” screen with portraits

Two white arches one behind the other, with an image of the waving Russian flag on their glowing posts; at the back, a large screen with the coat of arms above a column of people; the glossy floor reflects the light
