Moscow Region stand at the “Russia” Expo

About the project

Software for the Moscow Region stand at the “Russia” Expo at VDNKh: six media players with video mapping for LED screens and a gallery of 15 presentations on a touch panel.

The “Russia” International Exhibition and Forum opened at VDNKh on 4 November 2023. The regions’ stands were housed in Pavilion No. 75, among them the stand of the Moscow Region. It featured LED screens: a façade with three doors and the words “Open the door to the Moscow Region”, three booths behind the doors with screens on the walls, a round screen in the game zone, and the wall and floor of a photo zone. Next to them was a touch panel with presentations on the region’s projects.

The stand was designed and built by other companies. We made its software: seven programs that play video on screens of different shapes and open the presentation gallery — and installed everything on site.

Scope of work

7 programs: 6 media players with video mapping for 13 LED screens, a gallery of 15 presentations

The task

Each screen had to show video fitted to its shape: the façade with its three doorways, the round screen, the three walls in each booth, the wall and floor of the photo zone. For the touch panel — a gallery in which visitors choose a topic and flip through the slides themselves. The contract was signed on 30 October 2023, five days before the exhibition opened.

What we did

Façade

An 8.96 × 3.84 m LED screen with three 1.28 × 2.56 m doorways — the entrances to the booths. A player and mapping fitted to the shape of the façade: the image flows around the doorways, and above the doors is “Open the door to the Moscow Region”.

Three booths

Each has three 2.56 × 2.56 m LED screens: left, centre and right. Each booth has its own player and video mapping across the three walls.

Round screen in the game zone

A 2.56 × 2.56 m screen with the image in a circle. A player and mapping for the circle; its video shows an aerial view through the clouds and the Dobrodel emblem and lettering.

Photo zone

The player and mapping combine the 1.92 × 3.84 m LED wall and the 1.92 × 2.56 m LED floor into a single image. The photo zone video shows a river from above, the coat of arms of the Moscow Region and the “Russia” Expo emblem.

Presentation gallery

An application for the touch panel: 15 presentations, 124 slides — “Improving small towns”, “Eastern water supply system”, “Children’s multidisciplinary hospital in Krasnogorsk”, “M-11 motorway”, “M-12 ‘Moscow — Kazan’ motorway”, “MCD” (Moscow Central Diameters), “Bridge over the Volga in Dubna”, “New schools and kindergartens”, “Educational clusters”, “Perinatal centres”, “Closing landfills”, “Developing parks and forest parks”, “Vascular centres”, “Social gasification”, “TsKAD” (Central Ring Road). The visitor chooses a topic and flips through the slides. We laid out the presentations in a single style: a frame with corner marks on every slide, title slides on a light grey background, and the rest on photographs of the sites with figures in green.

A slide about the TsKAD bridge across the Moscow Canal: length, main span, weight of the steel structures, height

A slide about the bridge over the Volga in Dubna: length including approaches, the bridge crossing, the span over the river channel, traffic lanes

Installation

We installed the software and content on site.

How it is built

13 LED screens with a total area of about 112 m² and a pixel pitch of 1.538 mm: the round screen, nine in the booths, the façade, and the photo zone wall and floor.

Each zone has its own computer — seven in all: the game zone, the three booths, the façade, the photo zone and the touch panel.

Video is prepared for the exact resolution of each screen: the façade — 5824 × 2496 pixels, the round screen and each booth wall — 1664 × 1664, the photo zone — 1248 × 4160 (the 1248 × 2496 wall and the 1248 × 1664 floor as a single image).

Result

The seven programs were signed off on 11 November 2023. The “Russia” Expo ran until 8 July 2024; in June 2024 master classes and quizzes were still being held at the Moscow Region stand in Pavilion No. 75.
